Madeline and Molly: Three Months

Madeline and Molly,
You are THREE MONTHS old today! I can't even begin to believe that you are already a quarter of a year old.  I think because you spent your first five weeks at the hospital you seem like you should be a little younger to me.  Regardless, you are doing what I begged you not to do and you are growing up! I'm already a little sad that y'all aren't teeny tiny little babies any more.  Even though you are growing up when I would rather you not, y'all are still such good babies and you are really taking it easy on me.  If all kids were this easy I would have more! I've even asked your dad if we could have another and he quickly shot me down.  Yes, we have our hands full but we are also so blessed with three wonderful children.

We've spent the last month settling into our new normal, establishing somewhat of a routine, and saying goodbye to the help we had for the first several weeks.  We've weaned you off fortified breast milk to now only nursing during the day and bottles of breast milk at night.  I've regulated my supply to where now I'm only producing what y'all are demanding.  All of these changes have made this month so much easier than the previous two, and it has made life with three kids so much more enjoyable!

I'm going to make this next statement and pray it doesn't come back to bite me in the rear, but y'all are g-r-e-a-t sleepers.  We put you down at night around 7:30, wake you up around 11:00 to give you a bottle, and then Molly will wake up between 4:00 and 6:00 ready for another bottle.  Y'all always go right back to sleep after your bottles and then I usually wake y'all back up around 8:00 or 8:30am again.  Y'all are great about napping in your swings, in the car, in our arms, or wherever we may be.  And y'all almost always give me a good long nap in the afternoon from about 1:00 to 4:00pm.  This is so different than how Carter ever was as a baby I'm not sure what to think about it, but I still hope you don't punish me for saying how great y'all are! Keep it up, girlies!

Madeline Kate,
Just like last month you continue to be our happy and content baby.  Often times we find you just sitting in your car seat/swing/rock-and-play and just staring at something completely content.  You still love your daddy something fierce and always smile when he holds you.  In other peoples arms you prefer to be held sideways across their body but with Daddy you always curl your legs up like a little frog and snuggle into his chest.  You still look so much like your brother; it's uncanny.  At night or at naps you are NEVER the one to wake up hungry to eat, it's always your sister.  If it weren't for her waking us up I'm sure you would be sleeping in really long stretches.  It takes you awhile to wind down to go to bed, but once you are asleep you are OUT and it's really hard to wake you up.  You get that from your Daddy.  You will take your nightly bottles alright but you definitely prefer to nurse and we sometimes have a hard time getting you to burp.  We're still trying to figure out your reflux issues, but fortunately they aren't too bad and something you should grow out of soon.

Molly Ann,
You are still our bitty baby girl, but you love to eat.  Even though your hair is falling out something fierce you still look so much like your Daddy.  You have really started to smile and talk to us and it's easily the highlight of our day.  We will stand in front of you talking to you like fools forever just to get a few peeps out of you.  You are trying so hard to roll over, both from your belly to back and back to belly.  I still think you will be the louder and more opinionated sister of the bunch, which you probably get from me.  We've caught you paying attention to what brother is doing during the day and I'm thinking the two of you will be conspiring against me in no time at all.  And just like Carter Man you LOVE your paci.

To our beautiful baby girls,
We thought having twins would be twice the work, which it is, but we completely underestimated how much fun it would be.  We LOVE having both of you in our family and it is so much FUN being a family of five.  We often catch ourselves daydreaming about the future and wondering what life will be like once all of you are toddlers, school-aged, teenagers, and beyond.  We have so much FUN ahead of us! We love you to the moon and back.
