A football update

I haven’t blogged recently, and was reprimanded for only blogging about football, so I’m consolidating all of the recent games into one post.  Here we go!

Bi-District Champs: Katy 49, Stratford 14

Our first playoff game this year was a first for the Tigers, we wore black!  That’s right, your red and white Katy Tigers wore black.  Nike has been trying to get us to try something new for the past 2 seasons but Coach Joseph always stuck with tradition, but for our 11th game at Rhodes in one season he decided we needed something different….BLACK!  It was a big secret, not even the players knew until they were finished warming up at the stadium and came back into the locker room before the game started.  They were thrilled and as you can see, it showed in the score!

Area Champs: Katy 45, Atascocita 7

Our first non-Rhodes game of the year was at our home-away-from-home, Tully Stadium against the Atascocita Eagles from Humble.  It was our first meeting and I think Atascocita hopes it was our last!  We won 45 to 7 and dominated every aspect of the game.  It was cold and rainy so I didn’t get too many photos.  And we went back to our normal red and white!

Regional Semi-Final Champs: Katy 37, LaPorte 3

Our second game at Tully Stadium faced us up against the bulldogs from LaPorte.  Matty was really worried about this one and up until halftime so was I.  But our wonderful coaching staff made the needed adjustments and we came out clicking on all cylinders the second half.  The Tigers were victorious and send the bulldogs packing the second year in a row.

There are possibly 3 weeks left of football so please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we maneuver our way through the post season.  We will be facing Clear Springs this Saturday at Tully so be thinking of us around 1pm.

In other football news the Chaparrals from Austin Westlake, Jeff’s team, is still running in the postseason.  The Chaps have beaten San Antonio Madison, Converse Judson and Harlingen and will face San Antonio Clarke this weekend.  Go Chaps!

The champs are back!

This weekend we played our last regular season game of the year against our rival, Cinco Ranch High School.  Cinco was 9-0 coming into the game and the Tigers were 8-1.  After the game was over Cinco was 9-1 and the Tigers were 9-1.  That’s right, Tigers win!!  District Champs 2009!!!  Feels good to have that golden football back where it belongs!

The game was so exciting!  The papers are reporting a record crowd of 15,000 and they even set up a portable replay screen in the endzone.  We definitely need to get us one of those permanently!

The game came down to the last play and ended in favor of Katy (no thanks to the refs!)  It was an exciting finish with lots of screaming, hugging and celebrating.  Poor Keegan didn’t know how to handle all of the excitement!

Oh, and I HAVE to mention halftime!  The Katy drill team performed an awesome prop routine and the cheerleaders even got to perform.  The band brought out their playoff music and it gave me chills!  I can’t wait for the last third of this season!

The perfect weekend

Many things happened this weekend, some usual, some not so usual, to make up the perfect fall weekend.

1) The perfect weather in Houston (after a full week of rain) for…

2) a Katy Tiger victory!  Katy faced the Mayde Creek Rams on Saturday and won handedly 42-7.   Defense and Matt’s boys played well, only allowing one td late in the game with the subs in.  Next week will be the last regular season game against Cinco Ranch for the district title!

3) A very special little ladybug made an appearance at the game. :)

4) Matt got home early enough on Saturday to help me hand out candy to the precious little trick-or-treaters!  Fortunately we did not have any tricks, just treats this year.  :)  Cooper hung out with us for a little while outside but I think some of the kiddos scared him so he watched from the window.  We saw lots of fairies and princesses, a Piglet and a Tigger, several action heroes and much much more.  It’s so fun being on the other side and handing out candy to little ones!

5) The Aggies won on Saturday too!

6) The Texans won today too!

Coming up this week: Baby Ella finally makes her debut on Tuesday and position dinner with ALL of Matt’s boys at our house on Wednesday!  Also, KJH plays for the district championship following in the footsteps of their KHS Tigers!
