Carter: 14 Months

Carter Man,
You are FOURTEEN MONTHS old today! Whoa! I know that you just turned one not too long ago, but, my dear, you seem like you have grown up so much in the last two months.  You are a full-blown toddler now, talking and walking and full of opinions.  Your personality is on display all day long and you sure do keep us on our toes.  You are a wild man!

The biggest thing we need to record is that you officially started walking!  It has all really happened in the last twoish weeks, but you are 100% on your feet now.  Even at this time last week you were still crawling some, but everyday you get better and better.  You rarely fall anymore and I'm sure in the next few days you will be running and climbing everywhere.  I'm thankfully that you are more steady on your feet now as you are SO very heavy and were really starting to hurt Mamas arms!

You took your first plane ride to Florida at the beginning of the month for the McD family vacation.  You did SO good! You slept most of the way there and back, and were happy to jump from lap to lap during the time you were awake.  You definitely inherited your Daddy's love of planes!

Sugar dumpling...you are a little...ahem...difficult.  Spirited I think is the word I'm supposed to use.  Call it what you will, but you have definitely put us in our place this month.  I think we are reaching the phase where your verbal communication simply has not caught up to your thoughts and so we are in this funny middle place where you know what you want but cannot communicate your wants to us.  You have figured out how to pitch a temper tantrum, and BOY, watch OUT when you are mad!  You can throw that head back and kick those feet like a teenager.  (Wonder who you get that from??)  We find ourselves having discussions almost nightly about appropriate discipline tactics for young toddlers.  I'm not too sure what we are going to do with you, but please know that we love every bit of you...even the spirited part that we are just now meeting.

As spirited as you may be, you are also very easy to entertain. You love to "unpack" or remove objects: laundry baskets, drawers, toy bins, kitchen cabinets, you name it you can unpack it in no time at all.  You also love to push buttons and flip light switches, your favorite being the button for the garage door.  If I am carrying you we cannot leave a room until you have flipped all the light switches and closed all the doors.

You are still napping twice a day but I am thinking about starting the transition to one nap pretty soon.  You have started fighting me on your afternoon nap and everyday is just a little harder than the day before.  You start preschool (!) next month and will need to be comfortable with only one nap before then.  Your nighttime sleep is wonderful and usually you sleep 7:30pm - 6:30am.

You are still a picky eater, still picky about when you will drink out of a sippy, and still take a paci on occasion.  Don't tell Dr K but I think you will be fine before you leave for college.

Love bug, hurricane, sugar dumping, buddy boy...you are so, SO loved.  As hard as this month has been it has also be amazingly wonderful.  You laugh all the time and just live in a state of pure joy.  You are so happy and really enjoy playing and being around people.  You make me proud everyday.  You make me laugh everyday.  And you strengthen my faith in God everyday.  I love you, to the moon and back.
