Live, from Boston...

Wow, what a day! If it weren't for all of the pictures we took I would not believe all we did today. Two things really stick out in my mind from today are 1) the weather is just fabulous, and 2) Boston loves their Red Sox! I'll start from the top:

First thing we did this morning was take the T (Boston for subway) to Boston's North End and went to church at the Old North Church. This is the oldest standing church in Boston and this is where Paul Revere lit the lanterns "One if by land, two if by sea." The service was wonderful and we stayed afterwards for a tour of the church. During the service I noticed they did not have any lights on; the windows were so big they just used the natural sunlight to light the room. And they didn't have the AC on! They had one large window open that provided a very nice breeze through the sanctuary and kept things very cool. Instead of pews they sit in boxes which used to be rented out to patrons of the church.
After church we wandered around Boston's North End which is like Little Italy. There are a ton of little Italian restaurants and the entire place smells like garlic bread! We visited the Boston Harbor and walked along the water. Mom also found a little apartment with the most beautiful geraniums! We also found ONE gas station!

For lunch we ate at a little Italian place that was really good. They also did not have their AC on relying just on the windows to provide a nice breeze. Mom and I split a soup, salad and fettuccine.

After lunch we made our way down to Faneuil Hall. On the way we stumbled upon the most moving Holocaust memorial; Mom and I were both amazed. It was a small sidewalk and about every 20 feet they had a glass enclosure and each one was dedicated to a different concentration camp. Each enclosure had 2 panes of glass- the outer pane had the registration number of each person who died at that particular camp etched into the glass. The enclosures were about 5x5 feet and 30 ft high with numbers stretching from floor to ceiling. The second pane had a quote from a Holocaust survivor written in black on the glass. It was just mind-boggling to look at each little registration number in the glass and realize how many numbers there were.

I think Faneuil Hall was my favorite part of today. It is an outdoor marketplace/ mall with several places to eat and people-watch. I wish I had more money! I did make some stops at Ann Taylor and Gap that were pretty successful. :) We saw one of the Cheer's locations (not the original) and stopped in and had a drink at Donovan's pub in honor of Michelle.

Can you spot mom in the crowd?

There she is!

After Faneuil Hall we needed a nap so we went back to the hotel to relax. About 7 we left for dinner and it was the perfect time to just wander around downtown Boston. The weather was just perfect and the sun was still out so we just meandered our way around until we found a little street cafe to eat at. Here are some sites from Boston:

Tomorrow we are going on one of Boston's famous Duck Tours and we plan to go somewhere for lunch with Clam Chowder. I guess while I'm here I should pick up a Red Sox shirt of my own!
