The battle for the District 19-5A title again came down to Katy and Cinco Ranch. It all started on Thursday night when the freshmen teams Matt coaches lined up against the cougars. It was REALLY cold all week which just made everything more exciting!
Matt coaching the freshmen defense
You can see from the scoreboard in the last picture that they won!! District champs!
Friday I headed up to the high school at the end of the day for the pep rally. We had a great run thru, Matt’s DB’s got to talk, and a great “dance off” between the Cinco boys, Katy teachers and Katy the Tiger.
“Welcome to the Red Sea. You’re gonna sink-ohhh”
Matt’s defensive backs: Ryken #4, Bubba #5, Channing #10, and Colt #11
My former cheerleader,Mallory!
Saturday we got to the stadium SUPER early and it was still in the 40’s outside. There were at least 3 thousand people lined up waiting for the gates to open; I wish I had gotten a picture of the line! It was insane!
The stadium was absolutely PACKED! There were people and signs everywhere and I was able to get some of the signs on the Cinco side.
“Maroon, the classy form of red” and “BTHOK” and “Pooh on the Tiggers”
“Go Cinco” and “Katy who? The one point wonder”
“We love our men in maroon” and “To heck with the red school”
“We’ve done it once, we’ll do it again”
Here are some shots at the stadium right at the opening kick-off.
And the run-thru’s!
Cinco:
“Welcome to Division 1” and “Heck with the red school”
Katy:
“Feel the fear, you’ve only won one year” and “Katy Football: Legends of All”
Kick-off
Both teams were ranked in the top 5 in the state so it was supposed to be very competitive and suspenseful. Turns out, either Katy is waaaaay better or Cinco is waaaaaay worse than the critics thought. The score at the half was 42-3 Katy and the game ended 56-3. Whoo hoo!! Defense dominated, offense dominated, special teams dominated. KATY TIGERS DISTRICT CHAMPS!
My favorite picture from the entire day came from the Chronicle website. At the end of the game the boys soaked Coach Joseph with Gatorade and the paper got the PERFECT shot!
Next up: Bellaire for the Bi-District championship.
